When business started difficulties overcame:
“the biggest challenge for me was the not knowing. Now I have faced a whole lot since then. I think the bigger challenges came once I got into business. But when you take that leap you don’t know what you don’t know. So, it was trying to figure out okay I’m going to take my 23 years of management… So how do I take that experience and leverage it over here. And then what is this entrepreneurial thing? There is no real guidebook or recipe book that says step one do this; step two do this. So, it was trying to find resources”…[Listen for More]

Best Advice to Other Entrepreneurs:
“my best advice is having the right mindset and not letting fear getting your way. We are all in that situation where we don’t know what we don’t know. But go to your local resources and find out what they offer. There is so many diamonds out there, there are so many things out there that are available to entrepreneurs in almost every community. Your local municipalities, sometimes your government all of them have some form of support for small business. Seek them out, find out what they are providing. And when you are doing or setting up your business always know it’s not about who you know it’s about who knows you. So, you want to put yourself and your business in a position where whatever solution you are providing when you open up your doors a lot of people say I have a gift and I put it out there and I’m going to offer it. Make sure there is a market for it, make sure you identify what solution are you actually solving so that when you speak to your potential client base you are talking to them from the solution perspective not from your perspective ”…[Listen for More]

Other Quotes From the Chat with Karen R Jenkins:
- “what I realised was that I have so many people around me that maybe I don’t have a personal relationship with them but I can watch them. And it’s one of the lessons learned. What can I learn from that person? What did they do well? What did they not do well? And then kind of apply those things to myself. So, there are famous mentors, people that you would never know about, but the mentorship comes in the form of reading the books… Then there are other people that you just know”
- “never assume”
- “little things like that way you make assumptions and delay processes or delay steps because you don’t have the time. Because as an entrepreneur time is money and when you are the chief cook and bottle washer you have to prioritise those things that will get your attention. I problem would have done a better job of prioritising my time ”
- “one of the biggest lessons I learned was I would have brought in an executive assistant or some type of administrator support way earlier than I did because I was really in the weeds with a lot of the paperwork and things that I probably shouldn’t have been doing but at the time I was the only one here. And I should have made that hire a lot earlier”
- “80 percent is mindset”
- “when you have that positive mentality that you can do it then you can. And it’s the thought process that says if you think you can you think you can’t you’re right. So, for me the mindset is the most critical part because the other pieces you can obtain. Knowledge you can obtain, information you can obtain, resources you can obtain. Mindset is critical”
- “please let me change the things that I can, I accept the things that I can’t and know the difference”
- “focusing on the things that are positive is the things that can definitely change your life”
