If you’re reading this right now, then I assume that you are not currently a celebrity authority, but you would like to be one day. If you’re currently a generalist, you’re quite a way off. You can’t just go from a generalist to a celebrity authority; first you need to become a specialist, then an authority, then a celebrity, and then finally a celebrity authority.
I’m going to keep this article relatively short, because I’ve already done an article on each of these steps, think of this as a nice little summary of all the summaries in the articles.
Generalist to specialist
In case you’re skeptical as to why you should bother to do this, here are a few reasons
- Specialists earn more
- Specialists earn recognition and fame in their field faster
- Specialists have more of our trust
- Specialists have nicer sounding titles, which sound better and impress us more
The steps required to transform into a specialist (in short), are:
- Choose a subject
- Learn, learn, learn
- Find a way to tell people/showcase your knowledge
- Keep learning
If you want to find out more about how to become a specialist, then I’d recommend you read my first article.
Specialist to authority
Next up is becoming an authority. Authorities are more respected in their fields than generalists, their opinions carry more weight, and they generally earn more than specialists do. It’s slightly more difficult to become an authority than it is to become a specialist, but here are the things you’ll need to do and focus on in order to make that transition:
- Have a why
- Find a way as establishing yourself as an expert
- Testimonials and references
- Start putting your opinions out there
- Associate with other authorities
- Build your brand
- Never stop learning
- Give as much value as you can, help people without any expectations
Once again, if you want to read about becoming an authority in more detail, I’d recommend reading my article.
Authority to celebrity
We’re really moving now, next in our crash course of becoming a celebrity authority is transitioning from an authority to a celebrity. I don’t think I really need to explain the benefits of being a celebrity compared to being an authority; basically you’ll earn more and be respected more. The steps for doing this are:
- Focus on your image and your brand (social media is key)
- Be authentic and genuine
- Show your face and name
- Find ways of getting your message out to people
- Make sure people are exposed to you as much as possible
- Be the party
- Make sure that you’re constantly and consistently putting out new content
- Put your personality out there
- Engage with your fans
- Make sure it’s easy for people to get in touch with you
- Give back
- Value your time
You may have noticed that each list has been longer than the last, which partly explains why less and less people bother to make each extra step in the road to becoming a celebrity authority, it’s more difficult, but for those who do keep going, it’s worth it. For more detail on becoming a celebrity, I’d strongly recommend you read the article I wrote on it.
Celebrity to celebrity authority
So, what are the perks of being a celebrity authority? I’m sure you can think of a few, but here’s a list in case you missed any:
- Celebrity authorities are highly demanded, everyone wants a slice of them, and everyone wants their opinions
- Celebrity authorities are extremely well paid
- Celebrity authorities are demanded even by the media
- Celebrity authorities have raving fans, not just followers
- Celebrity authorities are the leading authorities in their niche/industry
- Celebrity authorities have a great lifestyle, not just a great bank account
Celebrity authorities are the authorities of the celebrity world, they’re in a position everyone wants to get to. Remember when I said the lists of things you need to do for each extra step is becoming bigger, well this one is smaller than the list for becoming a celebrity. But that’s mainly because a lot of the things required are just more of what it takes to become a celebrity. So, mentally add those to the list too, which means it’s actually bigger again. Anyway, here is your final list of steps:
- Build your influence
- Build an army of raving fans (and engage with them)
- Access bigger audiences and engage with them
- Get big media exposure
- Speak at as many events as possible
- Be the guy (or girl) people in your field go to in your field to get their problems solved
- Have a book
- Put the hours in
- Have passion
- Work smart
- Don’t give up
As I have with my previous lists, I’m going to point out that if you want to know more about becoming a celebrity authority, you should read my article on it. I also want to point out, that with all my lists there may be things on there where you think it’s easy to point out, but much harder to actually do. If you read the articles, you’ll find I go into much more detail regarding how to actually achieve each step, as well as the benefits of doing so.
I hope you enjoyed this very, very condensed guide on going all the way from a generalist to a celebrity authority. If you have anything you’d like to add, or any opinions or questions, feel free to post a comment.
