Sometimes when our wrestling through things having other people who understand who are actually doing similar things is really powerful because it’s a little safer. If you have employees you can’t always tell you’re employees you are struggling, that’s not always a good idea… So, having other business leaders that you can go to be like I don’t know how I am going to make payroll and the other person goes you know what dude I’ve been there. Other Quotes From the Chat with Kathryn Redman and Michael K Redman:
- “having a really good grasp on finances and cash flow that was a really, really big deal… And having a good financial model… That was something certainly early on… I had worked for the people; Michael had worked for the people… But in terms of putting something together for ourselves and really understanding what a good financial model was we just didn’t have that education. So, we really encourage, especially young entrepreneurs to really work hard at understanding finances and getting a good financial model and thinking clearly through how to structure all that”
- “the biggest secret to success that I think exists is defining success for you and the people in your life. Because that word is what we call a fuzzy word in our office, in our life. Fuzzy meaning it’s an abstract that can mean a lot of different things. Ask 10 people what it means and you are going to get 10 social 10 different answers. So that can get you in trouble because everybody thinks they are headed towards the same thing and working towards it and then all of a sudden you realise you have got different finish lines and they might be in opposite directions”
- “there is epic failure that I could have prevented potentially because of choices that I’ve made”
- “I think one of the things that gets in the way of people success a lot as they underestimate how long something actually takes to accomplish and they abandon early because they think it should have been taken care of by now, I should have had growth by now, I should have had a profit by now, I should have seen a return on investment by now”
- “hi trust, low-cost, things happen fast. If its low trust things take longer to happen and they usually cost more money. So why not develop trust?”
- “How do you create a vision for your company, for your employees that makes them want to do this work with you? That causes them to be pulled forward into it as opposed to assigning orders”
