When business started difficulties overcame:
“I was not equipped to be an entrepreneur… I was good in school, I had good clinical skills but I had no idea whatsoever what it takes to run a business. They don’t teach you that in medical school or in chiropractic school it’s just not part of the curriculum. So, you are kind of let out into the world like the way that a new mother as a new-born baby and goes home and suddenly says no what do I do with this thing. That’s kind of what happened”…[Listen for More]

Best Advice to Other Entrepreneurs:
“study your craft… There are two driving forces that drive entrepreneurs and they look the same from the outside but they are very different from the inside. And one of them is passion and one of them is obsession… Passion is an energy that will take an entrepreneur and put him or her into a highly resourceful state for long periods of time. And so early in our progress as entrepreneurs we are working with great passion. Sometimes what happens is we hit a wall, we may become upon something that we don’t how to do but we feel such dogged determination that we start applying all of our energy on that one thing and we do it with what looks like passion from the outside so we are still working day and night. But what it is flipped from passion into obsession now we feel this sense of doom and I’ve got to get this done and just this horrible feeling of obligation. And most entrepreneurs cross that line without realising it. Highly successful entrepreneurs will again be mindful, they recognise the moment that they cross the line from passion into obsession. If they find themselves becoming obsessive and there is a negative energy associated they notice it and spot it early and typically what that means to the entrepreneur is that there is something that he or she doesn’t know how to do or isn’t as skilful or masterful at as he or she thinks he or she is and rather than go out and ask for help, rather than take a … Rather than go online and learn something new they just keep beating their heads against the wall. This is the death of entrepreneurship and of having heart attacks and ulcers or end up running from their businesses as if it’s a burning building. You’ve got to be willing to recognise when the passion is starting to change into a negative obsessive energy. And if it is you need to realise that that’s assigned that you need help, that you need more information and you probably need some kind of mentoring or coaching. And if you would only take that as a signal and a sign and do the right thing rather than beat your head against the wall trying to do it all yourself your life would be infinitely easier and you’d properly get much more successful much more quickly”…[Listen for More]

Other Quotes From the Chat with Steve Taubman:
- “get a mentor, get a coach, get people who know what they are doing”
- “monitor your enthusiasm for what you are doing and make sure that it doesn’t own you and that you own it”
- “I think my business would have gone faster if I had spotted the moments where I could have corrected. Maybe by trying new strategy or by scrapping the whole thing and trying new business. But it’s that ability and willingness to always look at the thing and look at how you are feeling inside of it. Because if you are an entrepreneur you are doing this because of self-expression. I want to express myself into the world through my ideas. And if your business is owning you and now suddenly it’s just dragging you along then you are no longer the expressive person that you started out as and it’s going to start to eat away at you and you are not going to build very quickly either”
- “for me the secrets to success are perseverance, humour… Humour is an important quality because it means perspective and it means that we can see our faults and our strengths and we cannot get too attached and too caught up in things, we kind of move easily through our lives…”
- “Love: you have got to love what you do; you’ve got to love the people that you are doing it for, you’ve got to love yourself because if you don’t love yourself you will easily punish yourself in the process. You will work harder than you should or you will beat your head against the wall longer than you should. If you don’t love your clients, your patients, your customers, they will feel it and you won’t develop a culture in your organisation that welcomes them in. If you don’t love your staff then even if you want to create a good experience for the customer your staff won’t. And if you don’t love what you are doing in the product or service that you are delivering then you are going to transmit that to others subconsciously through a million different non-verbal cues”
