Entrepreneurial Role Models:
“a lifetime of connection with my personal advisory group with three other individuals that we meet four times a year”
When business started difficulties overcame:
“there is a couple of parts that I think. The first part is a lack of vision. And while that is more philosophical than it is a tactical thing to overcome it is significant in the journey of any entrepreneur, particularly in the early days. And we had a real lack of vision or more importantly I had a lack of vision for so many years. We would get into businesses without an understanding of how we were going to get out of them. And when you go into a business without a real clarity of where that business is going, what it looks like when it grows up and what it looks like when it’s done then you just find yourself in a bad marriage because you’ve launched into this arrangement with a group of individuals and with clients in an industry that you might still be navigating and all of a sudden you find yourself on this journey, and it still might be a good journey, you might be making some money and growing the business, but you wake up one day and you go how did I get here and where am I going with this and why is every day still hard? Other Quotes From the Chat with Troy Hazard:
- “you run into people for a reason or a season or a lifetime”
- “today we have got a formula that we have every year… that every year Dominique and I write a personal plan for the year and then we match the business plan to suit the personal plan. And by having that anchor of what you want to be when you grow up and what you are doing and where you are going as an individual, and then matching your business to that it allows you to create a business that works for you so that you are not working for it. It allows you to create a life first and then a business to match that life”
- “one thing that successful people don’t do is make lists of how to be successful”
- “over the years I have had different mentors or role models for different reasons and different circumstances in my life”
- “I don’t think success is defined by others”
- “I try and watch 30 minutes of video, listen to tapes or read a book or read some articles online, do something for 30 minutes a day that helps me to be better tomorrow than I am today. Now that might be an educational piece, a personal development piece, a fitness piece, a family piece, a relationship piece, it’s anything that I believe I need to work on right now to help me with my journey, to help me evolve. Because if I’m not evolving as a leader, as an entrepreneur, as a father, as a husband, as a human then I am not going to deal with change very well”
- “we try and build the business around the beach not the beach around the business”
