When business started difficulties overcame:
“I had to learn everything, I started from scratch, I had never been in business before. so I had to learn the mechanics of selling, I had to learn the industry itself… And I also then had to learn about marketing and I had to learn about compliance. So I was a student and the practitioner at the same time. So what are learn from that is the obstacle it can appear to be insurmountable, there is just so much I have to learn and if I had waited until I had it all figured out before I did anything nothing ever would have happened”…[Listen for More]

Best Advice to Other Entrepreneurs:
“be really clear on why you love whatever endeavour you are in, pursuing or about to pursue. I think we skip over that question. So specifically it would be why do I love this business? Or why do I love this project? Or why do I love this product? Or why do I love this service? You pick the context. Why do I love this? And how can I show it in my actions. I think a lot of time we start businesses because we get excited about an idea but we don’t take the time to really reflect and personalise it. And I think if you do that, if you start that and then asked that question of yourself frequently it’s going to keep your fire burning, is going to keep you energised. Because there is going to become a time, there are going to become many times where you wake up in the morning and it’s not why do I love this work that I’m doing? It’s not going to come out that way is going to be more like why the hell did I sign up for this or what was I thinking. So what I’m going to suggest to you is the more difficult it is to answer this why do I love this work question the more important it is to answer that question because that’s what’s going to keep your own fire burning especially at the times when you need it most”…[Listen for More]

Neil’s Quote at the Beginning:
Vince Lombardi “Winning is not a sometime thing; it’s an all time thing. You don’t win once in a while, you don’t do things right once in a while, you do them right all the time. Winning is habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.”
Other Quotes From the Chat with Steve Farber:
- “the one fairly common phrase that I take a little bit of an issue with is the phrase ‘work life balance’. And it’s not the balance part that I take issue with its the dynamic that gets set up contrasting work with life. It’s kind of absurd when you think about it because what we are saying then is that work is not life, they are two different things, work is not life. Well if work is not life then what is it – death. And I would argue that that is just not the case. So work is a part of life… Now granted we do different things and we may pursue things that make us happier or not happier depending on whether we are at work or in our personal world but it’s all life. And I think if we can challenge ourselves to bring our passions into everything that we do then that whole picture becomes more enriched”
- “do what you love in the service of people, love what you do”
- “it’s finding the balance between being prepared and pulling the trigger before you are fully prepared. So, I think you do want to do your research, your due diligence, your market analysis, all of those things but don’t wait for perfection in any of those areas because you will never start because there is no such thing. There is always going to be some level of doubt, there is always going to be some unanswered question and the process of being in business of being an entrepreneur every day there is a new question there is a new answer to. You will discover that along the way. So, if you are waiting for that perfect time to get started is never going to come”
- “culture is important from minute one”
- “I don’t look at discomfort or being uncomfortable as a negative thing. In the right context it’s actually a sign that we are trying something new”
